When did you last check your tyre pressures?

At Ostle's Tyres, Galashiels, we offer a FREE MONTHLY TYRE PRESSURE CHECK to all local motorists and new customers. Tyres are the only link between your vehicle and the road, and this key check shouldn't be ignored.

Regularly checking your tyre pressures improves your safety on the road, saves money and is better for the environment. To give you peace of mind that your vehicle is getting the optimum performance from it's tyres, we recommend REGULAR VISUAL CHECKS for anything that could affect tyre pressure, such as nails, screws or loose debris. We would highly recommend checking your tyres before long journeys along with your spare tyre (if applicable).

Ideally when checking your own tyre pressures, only do so when the tyres are cold. We would recommend that your tyres have not been in use for approximately 2 hours, or have not covered more than 2 miles at high speeds to gain an accurate reading.

Tyre pressures are vital for balanced braking, optimum grip and tyre life. Each vehicle has a very specific recommended pressure, which can often be found in your handbook or inside the petrol cap.

If tyre pressures are inflated incorrectly and are not checked regularly, the following could apply.

• Accelerated tyre wear
• Excessive tyre heat created
• Increased fuel consumption
• Harder vehicle handling
• Increased braking distances
• Decreased tyre grip
